Dr. Ben Burch is a double board–certified orthopaedic spine surgeon practicing at Atlanta Spine Institute. He specializes exclusively in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of spinal disorders in adults and adolescents, with a particular focus on advanced minimally invasive and endoscopic techniques. Dr. Burch treats the full range of spinal conditions, including disc herniations, disc degeneration, spinal stenosis, spinal arthritis, spinal deformity, tumors, infections, and spine trauma.

He went on to pursue graduate studies, including completion of a Master of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2012, also from the University of Alabama. He received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2016. This was followed by completion of an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute, spanning 2016 through 2021. Finally, Dr. Burch completed a fellowship in Complex and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery at the prestigious Brown University Alpert School of Medicine, which he finished in 2022.

Dr. Burch remains active in multiple academic pursuits, including authoring multiple research articles and textbook chapters. He routinely engages in ongoing research projects related to spine surgery, including development of novel surgical techniques. Endoscopic Spine Surgery Expertise

Dr. Burch is one of the nation’s foremost experts in endoscopic spine surgery — an ultra-minimally invasive approach that allows surgeons to address many spinal conditions through incisions only a few millimeters in size. He is the highest-volume endoscopic spine surgeon in the state of Georgia and one of the highest-volume endoscopic spine surgeons in the United States.

He is among a small group of surgeons proficient in both uniportal and biportal endoscopic spine surgery, the two leading techniques in this rapidly evolving field. This dual expertise allows him to select the approach best suited to each patient’s anatomy, pathology, and goals — rather than fitting every patient to a single technique.

National Leader in Surgical Education

Dr. Burch is a recognized leader in spine surgery education. He routinely teaches and trains other spine surgeons in both uniportal and biportal endoscopic techniques, helping advance the standard of care for patients across the country. His commitment to teaching reflects a core belief: more patients deserve access to these transformative procedures, and that begins with training more skilled surgeons to perform them.

What This Means for Patients

For Dr. Burch’s patients, endoscopic spine surgery offers meaningful advantages over traditional open spine surgery: smaller incisions, less disruption to surrounding muscles and tissues, minimal blood loss, less postoperative pain, and significantly faster recovery. Many endoscopic procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to return home the same day and resume their normal activities quickly.

Above all, Dr. Burch is committed to providing every patient with a thoughtful, personalized treatment plan — surgical or non-surgical — built around their individual condition, goals, and lifestyle.
